3 Reasons To Stock Up On Blog Posts.

In a previous post, near the end of August, I mentioned a new tactic in being organized and efficient in my blog. I would write several blog posts at once, and then schedule them to publish automatically. As anyone following may have noticed, this decision has been a success.
I may be premature in declaring success, since it is still the day I wrote swaths and swaths of posts, all at once. In cold hard numbers – four scheduled to be published, and a whopping sixteen drafts in various stages of polish. The entire day I’ve been brushing my shoulders off and patting my own back until my hand hurt. Seriously, when I get on a roll I’m clearly unstoppable.
Now that I’m done bragging, I’m going to list 3 reasons why this method works;
- You get in the mindset, only to go on a roll. This is the single best reason for this strategy. Often, in the middle of posting, you go off on a tangent only to realize it could consist of a post in it’s own right. Once I stopped telling myself “Stay on topic and get this post done!” I found myself producing countless topics, and then expanding on them.
- It takes the pressure off. There’s nothing worse than being inundated with work, knowing you haven’t posted in seriously forever, and having nothing to go with. Now you’ve got drafts in the reservoir. Which, I repeat, takes the pressure off.
- It helps you stay on top of blogging, even when you’re super-ultra-crazy busy. Maybe you’re working two jobs, moonlighting as a freelancer, and a slave to your thrice weekly yoga classes. Maybe you have six children, a husband who gambles and a soap opera addiction. Maybe you’re a super hero, juggling a normal identity and saving the world. It doesn’t matter; with your stockpile of posts, you can still be consistent.
So, does anyone else have tips for staying on top of your blog?

I really need to get on to something like that, although I must say I find I really don’t have too much to say. Let me correct that – I do have a lot to say but my inner critic always, always butts in with, “Who the hell do you think you are. What makes you think anyone wants to read what you have to say.”
I am currently taking an online writing class at UCLA so we’ll see if that will help to silence the critic in me.

Yeah, I feel like that too sometimes. But I think with so many people on the internet, there’s bound to be a few who are interested in the same things as me. So, even if one person doesn’t want to read what I have to say, then there’s bound to be at least one who does.
If all else fails, I’ll just teach my Mom to use a computer, and then I’ll always have one fan.
Thanks for the comment, good luck with your writing class!

I also schedule blog posts. It is great. The only disadvantage is if I get a lot of comments on a post and wants to expand the subject or if any event appears in the world that I would like to mention. Then there is more work if I don’t want to have two blog entries on the same day, that is.
I also try to have a theme for some days (as it is now it is only Saturdays). Then I can work on that theme and get blogposts a few weeks ahead.

Thanks Millar!
@ Desiree: That’s a good idea. I’ve noticed a few people doing that, too. Like link-love Sundays, and Frugal Fridays. I think I might incorporate that in as well, it will just take me deciding what to make the common theme!
