Still Unpacking Blogger Boxes in my WordPress Condo

Posted in Uncategorized on Oct 08, 2008

I have slowly but surely been working out the kinks. I still have to put up a picture of just me – can’t have my man stealing my thunder, no sir. The thunder is mine, and I am a ninja when it comes to protecting it. A ninja with a gambling problem that also happens to be a super-power. I have magical scratch-and-wins, the Bingo kind that take a really long time. When I throw them at enemies, they have no choice – there is no resistance against these magical scratch-and-wins – they have to scratch them through until the end. So, he won’t be in the picture because he’s busy furiously scratching his way through a pile of them, then splitting the winnings with me.

Now that I have an actual domain, I feel like I am supposed to be more serious. Start reeling in jobs with my ultra-professional demeanor.

Um, yeah, check my About page. I really have to work out kinks if I’m going for the professional look.

So, things that could happen when you switch from Blogger to WordPress.

  1. Your links to your own blog will link to the blogger address. Obviously and of course. If you link back to your own blog often, this can be annoying to change in terms of a time drain.
  2. Anyone linking to your blog in their posts will still link to the blogger address. You could e-mail them, I guess, and ask them to change it. I linked to all of my posts to my new address. I deleted them all, then included a link basically saying the post skipped bail, moved out of town, and then linked to it’s new residence in a halfway house where it’s doing very well. I’m OCD and can’t repeat the same thing a bajillion times, so they’re all new posts. If you want to check that gong show out, then by all means. I was told to link back, that the link backs would be good for my new blog. Can anyone let me know if this was really worth the trouble, or if I should have just left it?
  3. Your categories will be different. This caused me to delete all of my categories, and I am re-thinking my tagging/categorization strategy. At least I learned that having one is worthwhile. Does anyone have any input on how they manage their categories so they don’t have a ton, they’re all applicable and organized?
  4. Some of the formatting might be off. So far this hasn’t been much of an issue, but I haven’t exactly combed through it.

That’s really all I’ve found so far, but I have only written two posts and changed my about page.

If I am doing something skewed, please let me know.

I have no clue about the whole Wordpress thing, but that picture is TOO cute! And I want your guy’s shirt. I mean, not off his back or anything, because that’s a little skeevy, but the shirt is fab. Seriously.

    Thanks Carrie!

I like that shirt because I’m short, and when we’re out in crowded places, I can always find him. The shirt is busy, so it stands out through all the bodies.

Just checking up on you since your drop in at Litfo. Looks good. Bit by bit, and not all in one day.

Here’s a link to John’s site, a real wordpress guru. It was somewhat helpful on developing traffic. Remember blogging is content specific, attract the right readers by sticking with what your passionate about, art, travel, fashion, philosophy, humor – you get the gist. I have 3 blogs, each for a specific audience. Stay happy and healthy. Sage.

    Thanks Sage!

That’s actually really good advice for me. I have a lot of interests, and need to stay focused sometimes; avoid turning my blog into a diary. Also, thanks for the link, I’m reading it over right after this reply. I’ve been thinking about starting up a new blog in a different niche, but I’m going to think awhile longer before I commit to it, and make sure it’s something I really want to do.
